FDA approves new Alzheimer’s blood test

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a blood test for detecting Alzheimer’s by Roche and Eli Lilly, according to an announcement Aug. 24 by Roche. The test, called Elecsys pTau217, is a single-biomarker blood test that helps identify amyloid pathology associated with the disease. The test distinguishes patients with a high or low likelihood of amyloid pathology and those who should be considered for additional testing. Roche said the test could be used in its more than 4,500 laboratory instruments across the U.S.
